Credit, Category 1, earned by
attending the lecture.
Victoria Sturtevant received her PhD degree in rural sociology from Cornell
University and has taught sociology at Southern Oregon University since 1980.
Her research interests include forest community capacity and federal policies
which support community-based forestry and adaptive management. For the past
three years she’s been involved in USFS-funded research studying communities
planning for wildfire and assessing innovative programs such as Fire Safe
Councils and The Nature Conservancy Fire Learning Network. Recent work has
focused on socio-demographic changes in rural forest communities and collaborative
groups, such as the Applegate Partnership. Sturtevant contributed to the
NW Forest Plan as a member of the Forest Ecosystem Management Assessment
Team and served as a special consultant for the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project.
