Shaded perennial-crop systems involving commercial crops such as coffee
(Coffea sp.), tea (Camellia sinensis), cacao (Theobroma cacao), and black pepper (Piper
nigrum) are very common agroforestry systems in lowland humid tropics. The picture
shows such a system including peach palm (Bactris gasipaes) in association with black
pepper and cacao in Bahia, Brazil.
