The parkland system is the extensive land-use system in sub-Saharan Africa
where multipurpose trees can be found throughout crop fields. The picture shows the
karité (Vitelleria paradoxa) trees on maize (Zea mays) fields in Mali. Other common trees in the
parkland system include néré (Parkia biglobosa) and Faidherbia albida.
