as FRAGSTATS.

- FRAGSTATS
Landscape analysis software used for calculating a
variety of metrics describing landscape composition
and configuration.
- Global
Ecosystems Database (GED)
The GED effort aims to meet the need for integration
and publication of datasets produced by the research
and modeling community regarding the ecological dimensions
of global change. The database has proven to have
many uses to a range of scientists, educators, and
managers; and serves as a general data publishing
mechanism for global and regionial scale biosphere
themes.

Open Source GIS software.
- GS+
Spatial statistics software.
- GSTAT
Open Source software "for geostatistical modelling,
prediction and simulation."
- HARVEST
HARVEST is a timber harvest simulation model constructed
to allow the input of specific rules to allocate forest
stands for even-age harvest (clearcuts and shelterwood)
and group selection. Modeling this process allows
experimentation to link variation in management strategies
with the resulting pattern of forest openings and
the distribution of forest age classes.

Range and FIA Importance Value Distribution Maps
This site has downloadable images and maps for 135
tree species, which have at least a portion of their
range in the eastern United States. You can use the
data in a GIS to display both ranges (according to
Elbert Little's maps) and importance values by 20
km cell (according to US Forest Service Forest Inventory
Analysis data) from their most recent surveys. Through
here you can also access a climate change atlas, a
database on 3200 species from the Illinois flora,
a documentation of biological trends in the US, and
information on prescribed fire studies and animations
at this site.
