Getting Started


Objective: An existing spreadsheet will be used for this exercise. In order to use this spreadsheet you will need to copy it into your own home directory.

Instructions: To do this you will use the Run... command from the File menu in the Program Manager.

Comments: You will need these files in order to complete these exercises. People using Excel on their standalone PC should copy the file from a floppy disk into their \EXCEL directory using the DOS COPY command or the Windows File Manager.

Activity 1.1 Move the cursor to the pull-down menu displayed at the top left hand of the Program Manager Window and click the left hand mouse button on the File menu. A list of menu options will be displayed, as shown in the diagram.

Activity 1.2 Select the Run... option. A dialogue box will then be displayed into which you click on Browse button, which pop up another dialogue box, as shown below. Choose tut27.xls file under directory N:\CUI.

Click <OK> or press <Enter> to actually run the command.

Activity 1.3 The Windows Applications window should already be visible. After a small amount of time the Excel screen will be displayed.
