Objective To add a simple regression line to the data plotted on the chart.
Instructions You will use the Add Trendline command from the Insert menu.
Comments Excel charting also allows you to perform some analysis on the data your graph is displaying.
Activity 10.1 Using the mouse, select the line representing the average score for the reps so that the boxes along the line are highlighted. From the Insert menu choose the Trendline command. The following dialogue box will appear.

Choose the Linear Trend box (it should already be selected) and click <OK>. A thick black line will appear on the chart representing the linear trend of the average for the Sales Reps over the four quarters.
Activity 10.2 Before you finish, you may want to tidy the graph up a bit. Here are some suggestions:
· Double click on the Average line to call up the Format Data Series dialogue box. Change the line weight to be thicker so that it stands out more.
· Change the X-Axis labels around so that they are easier to read.
· Change the X-Axis title to read "Sales per Quarter".
· Double click on the Chart title to call up the Format Chart Title dialogue box. Under the patterns tab give the chart title an ordinary weight border with a shadow.
· Double click inside the axis but not on a data series to call up the Format Plot Area dialogue box. Change the background colour to a light grey.
· Double click on the tab labelled <Chart1> at the bottom of the window. A small dialogue box comes up in which you can type your own name for the chart sheet. Type the name Quarterly Sales and click <OK>.
