Image Thumbnails
If you have high-resolution images that you would like people to see, a very helpful thing to do to help out those less fortunate (those with a slow connection) is to display a very small low-resolution (thumbnail) version of the high-resolution image on an introductory screen. Then you can provide this low-resolution image as a graphic link to your high-resolution image that they might like to see if they so choose. And, that is the key - if they choose. In this way, the page that has your low-res image is loaded rather quickly letting users browse through your site briskly, giving them a choice whether to subject themselves to a possibly long wait for the graphic to be painted on their screen. Following is an example of a low-res image as a graphic link to the same image, but at a much higher resolution and full-size. It is also helpful to put a file size next to the image so that the person browsing knows what to expect.
