The average computer monitor displays at a resolution of around 72ppi (pixels per inch). This can vary, but 72ppi is the most common. Therefore, we want to create images to be displayed at 72ppi on the average monitor. In Photoshop this can be accomplished by selecting [Image Size] from the [Format] menu and then typing in 72 for the Resolution (in pixels per inch). Make sure the file size box is not checked or you will obtain different results.
