One often overlooked area when designing web pages and graphics for web pages is the need for your audience to know where they are located at all times. Visual feedback is extremely important so that your audience will not feel confused or lost. Human Interface Design is a discipline all in itself, so we can't really do it justice here, but it is a driving force in the difference between a successful site vs. a non-successful site.
Navigation bars can be a good idea for your audience so that they have navigation tools at their finger-tips at all times. it gives your audience a sense of control, which makes for a more pleasurable experience on the web. After all, this is not a Hollywood film. Some sites have two navigation bars on a page: one for accessing the information, and the other for navigating the site. This is a good way to separate the information, and can be very beneficial to your audience. Consistency is the key when your audience travels from one location to another. Keeping titles, graphics, and fonts consistent enables browsers to keep track of where they are.
Arrows, buttons, bullets, and anything else you may need for webpage design can be found in the College of Forestry's image collections.
