Setup for MS Outlook Express

To setup Outlook Express you will need to:
- Open Outlook Express (Click the Start menu, click Programs,
click on Outlook Express)
- Open the Tools menu and choose Accounts...
- Click the Add button and select Mail...
- Enter your full name as you would like it to be displayed on messages
you send.

- Enter your E-mail address, likely of the form FirstName.LastName@oregonstate.edu.
Click Next.

- Select the type of incoming Mail server. Select IMAP
from the pulldown menu.
- The Incoming mail server (IMAP) name is thuja.forestry.oregonstate.edu
- Type in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name; exmail.oregonstate.edu,
then click Next.

- For the Account name - use forestry\ (backslash) before your
login ID - forestry\YourLoginName.
- Enter your Password.
- Check Remember Password. Click Next.

- Click Finish.

- Now you need to add the Directory Service to check addresses against
the campus e-mail directory
Click the Add button and select Directory Service...

- Enter directory.oregonstate.edu as the Internet directory (LDAP)
server. Click Next.

- Make sure Yes is checked. Click Next.

- Click Finish.

- Select directory.oregonstate.edu in your Internet Accounts
List window and click the Properties button to the right.

- Under the Properties window, select the Advanced tab.
- Click in the Search Base textbox and type in: o=orst.edu

- Click the OK Button.
- Close the Internet Accounts window.
- Click on thuja.forestry.oregonstate.edu in your Folder List
window.
- Click Yes in response to the download folders prompt.

- Click Yes in response to the view folder list prompt.

- Click OK to select your Inbox, Sent Items, and Drafts as the
folders you would like to Show.

- For each of the folders now listed on the right, Inbox,
Sent Items, Drafts
- Click on the folder to select it
- Click the Settings dropdown
- Select Headers Only
Making this setting change helps response time. Only the headers will
be downloaded by default. At the time you select a message to view,
then the entire message will be downloaded. (Rather than ALL
of your messages being downloaded in their entirety by default every
time you check your mail.)

- Right-click on thuja.forestry.oregonstate.edu in your Folder List
window
and choose Properties.
- Select the Servers tab.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server section, check the box indicating My
server requires authentication.
- Click Settings.

- Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Click OK.

- Select the Advanced tab.
- Check the box indicating This server requires a secure connection
(SSL).
- Click OK.

- The installation in now complete.
