Installing Imagine

Like most of the PC software in Forestry, Imagine can be install/updated with an auto installer. The installer loads the necessary software on the system and installs an icon for it in the program group or menu. After the initial installation subsequent launches of the application from this icon will perform an automatic check for to make sure the workstation and user portions of the application are installed and up to date. If everything is OK the launcher will simply start the application, otherwise it will automatically perform the necessary installation or upgrade.

If Imagine is not loaded on your system, the initial installation on a Win95 or WinNT system can be done by running the program:

Q:\WIN32\INSTALL\GIS\IMAGINE

On WinNT you must have administrative rights to install the program. The default install only puts a small part of Imagine on the local workstation and the remaining 210Mb are stored on the server. If you have the disk space and would prefer a local copy, this can be accomplished with the command:

Q:\WIN32\INSTALL\GIS\IMAGINE localinstall

The college is providing floating licenses for Imagine to reduce cost. There is no special charge to use these shared licenses. However, if you need a truely "private" copy that doesn't use the network license managers this can be arranged for an annual fee through the help desk (currently about $225).

Because of differences in workstation, Windows, and LAN configurations (as well as just plan bugs), sometimes the installations do not work properly. If you encounter problems with the installation that you cannot resolve, please contact the helpdesk.
