4. Capture techniques for white-footed voles.
White-footed voles are considered by some to be among the rarest species of
rodents in North America. The little information that we have available suggests that
they may be closely associated with alder-dominated riparian areas. This study was
undertaken in attempt to determine methods for live-trapping white-footed voles so that
their life history and response to riparian area management could be further studied.
The study began in fall, 1994, and no results are available yet for presentation. If
successful, the study will lead to survey and research techniques for the species which
will aid researchers and managers in assessing the influence of management activities
on white-footed voles.
