7. Natural history of bats of the Galapagos.
There are two species of bats on the Galapagos, and prior to this work, virtually
nothing was known of their distribution, status, and natural history. As part of my post-doctoral work at the University of Tennessee, I assisted Gary McCracken in a study of
the bats of the Galapagos to help fill in gaps in our knowledge base. The study
determined the distribution of the two species on the Galapagos and some basic
information concerning habitat utilization, roosting habitat, and diet. The results were
presented in non-refereed publication 6 and will be submitted to a refereed journal
within the next year.
