Corvallis, OR, GPA 3.86. Thesis Title: Habitat use by cavity-nesting
birds in young thinned and unthinned forests of the northern coast
range of Oregon

University, Arcata, CA, G.P.A. 3.41.
EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant/ Graduate Research Assistant: Coastal Oregon
Productivity Enhancement, Newport, OR.
--Assisted in an experimental study examining the effects of
commercial thinning on wildlife populations. My duties included
conducting point count surveys of breeding birds, vegetation
surveys, and preliminary statistical analysis. In addition to the
above duties, I also conducted independent research on the foraging
ecology of cavity-nesting birds for my Masters thesis. Research
Assistant, April to September 1994 and May 1997 to present.
Graduate Research Assistant, September 1994 to May 1997.
Biological Technician: (GS-5) Redwood Sciences Laboratory,
USFS, Arcata, CA
-Data Analysis- I was in charge of statistical analysis and data
collection for a study examining populations of Marbled Murrelets
in Northern California. I used computer programs such as Dbase,
Excel, and SAS to manage databases and statistically analyze data.
August 1993 to April 1994
-Marbled Murrelet crew: I was in charge of organizing field work
and supervising 4 people during 1993. I conducted stationary land
and oceanic surveys for Marbled Murrelets, censused songbirds
using point counts, and conducted vegetation surveys. May to
August 1992 and 1993.
Biological Technician: Gold Beach Ranger District, USFS, Gold
Beach OR.
--TES Surveys (GS-5) Duties included: surveyed timber sales for
the presence of endangered, threatened, or sensitive species of
wildlife; assessed the condition of habitat for a variety of species;
conducted land surveys for Marbled Murrelets; maintained a
wildlife sightings database; and conducted literature searches. May-August 1991.
--Spotted Owl Monitoring (GS-4) Surveyed timber sales for the
presence of Spotted Owls. This involved "calling" from roadside
stations; hiking in thick understory to locate owls; "mousing" the
owls; documenting behavioral information; navigating using
topographical maps, compass, altimeter, and aerial photographs;
working long hours and nights; driving on mountainous roads; and
preparing habitat data for conferences. May-August 1989.
Biological Technical: Redwood Sciences Laboratory, USFS, Arcata
CA.
--Flying Squirrel ecology (GS-4) Duties included: live trapped and
ear-tagged small mammals; determined species, sex, age and
reproductive status of the animals trapped; used compass and tape
to survey large grids; anesthetized and placed radio collars on flying
squirrels; and organized field data. June-August 1990.
Volunteer Experiences:
--Oregon Breeding Bird Atlas Project--Corvallis, OR. Collected
information on the presence/absence and reproductive activities of
breeding birds in Oregon, 1995 to present.
--Humboldt Bay Bird Observatory--Arcata, CA. Assisted in the
mist-netting and banding of songbirds. 1992 to 1994.
--Humboldt State University--Arcata, CA. Assisted in a large-scale,
quarterly census of wintering shorebird populations on the
Humboldt Bay and surrounding areas. 1990 to 1994.
--Placerita Canyon Nature Center, Newhall, CA. Assisted in the
rehabilitation of orphaned and injured birds. Assisted in public
demonstrations using live animals. 1987 to 1988.
