Why WS&E at OSU?
- OSU has one of the largest and most comprehensive wood science
and technology programs in the US and we were recently ranked in a US Department
of Agriculture
program review as one of the top four programs in North America. We offer
both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
- Our faculty are leaders in their
field and most are internationally renowned.
- We enjoy strong interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty in Science,
Engineering, and Business, the other programs in the College of Forestry
and with many companies.
- Most WS&E classes are taught by faculty who will get to know you and will
personally help you develop as a professional. Our class sizes are relatively
small and you won’t get treated as a number.
- We teach and do research in modern facilities in Richardson Hall
or at local industrial sites. You will learn using up-to-date equipment
or in
an industrial
setting. Many types of industrial manufacturing facilities or forests
are found within easy driving distance of Corvallis—we use
those as our labs!
- Many WST majors transfer from other degree programs or from community
colleges. Because of the electives in our flexible curriculum and
the personal attention
they receive from our advisors, transfers are generally able to graduate
with a minimum of extra work. Each case is unique and Dr. Brunner,
the Head Advisor,
should be consulted.
- There are many scholarships available through OSU, the College or
the Department, and many faculty offer part-time work on research
or other projects.
- We will help you find successful internships that will meet your
degree requirements, offer competitive wages, and give you a chance
to test out
different career
options.
- Our undergraduate programs require a senior project and six months
of work experience which helps make our graduates “work-ready” and
highly marketable.
- Student extracurricular activities such as The Forest Products Club,
Xi Sigma Pi, Logging Sports Team, Forestry Club and others in the
College
of Forestry
build friendships, leadership skills and enrich your academic experience
as well as enhance your professional development.
