Options within the BS in Wood Science and Technology

The Wood Industry Management Option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in the business side of the wood industry. Graduates typically find employment in manufacturing management, marketing or sales. With a good mix of technical and business skills, graduates from this option are successful mill and regional managers, vice-presidents and CEO's. Students may receive a minor in Business Administration with their degree. Graduates will also find themselves well prepared to pursue a Master's in Business Administration (MBA). View curriculum

The Forest Products Marketing Option prepares students for careers in industrial marketing and business management. The global forest products industry uses sophisticated business and marketing practices to offer a wide variety of traditional and innovative products. Graduates have a strong technical background and an in-depth understanding of marketing and are in high demand, especially internationally. Students completing this option have the opportunity to qualify for a Minor in Business Administration and will be well prepared to pursue an MBA. View curriculum

The Wood Engineering & Science Option is designed for students who will to pursue technical careers or go on to graduate school. This option includes higher math and science requirements, but enables the student to tailor their study plan to interest areas of science, technology or engineering. Graduates typically begin their careers working in manufacturing, often in quality and process control. Others pursue graduate degrees that may lead them to research or teaching positions in industry, government or a university. View curriculum

The Biobased Composites Manufacturing Option provides students with a rigorous foundation for employment in the expanding composite materials manufacturing sector. In recent years, technology and science has enabled the development of many engineered wood composite materials that can be produced from smaller trees of varied species. These materials enable more efficient use of renewable resources and offer new opportunities for replacement of non-renewable materials at lower cost. This challenging curriculum will prepare you for work in one of the most dynamic and growing sectors of the wood products industry. View curriculum

The Wood Industry Production Planning & Quality Control Option is designed for students interested in the efficient and economic use of industrial resources. The wood-products industry employs very sophisticated technology and methods to plan and control their manufacturing processes. Graduates with this option have the skills and knowledge to implement these techniques. With knowledge of wood properties and processing, graduates from this option will find employment in many industry segments. View curriculum
