We determined that a bullet entered this tree >5 years ago, meaning that the shooting was not associated with a recent double murder near this tree. Root wad of a very large upturned tree.

JC Domec in an 85-m tall Douglas-fir tree View from the middle of the canopy. Up, up and away!

View from the top of one of the emergent Douglas-fir trees. Coring near the top of an 85 m tall tree. Poor stem form in young radiata pine trees

Shining light through a thin section of radiata pine to see the compression wood. Compression wood in the leader of one radiata pine sampling that had been artificially inclined.

Deforestation of Easter Island.  These red stones are the adornments that would have gone on top of the moai as topknots.  They were left here, en route from the quarry, when apparently the civilization collapsed and sculptures could no longer be transported because of the lack of wood to use as rollers. Statues (moai) that were also en route when the civilization collapsed. Humboldt Penguin, Dr. Lachenbruch's visit to Antarctica
