Broken Link Detectors

Periodically checking your site for broken links is a good habit. There are tools that automate the process.

Xenu

Xenu is not only capable of checking for broken links, but generating site maps and other information. It can be run both locally (with HTML) and remotely (necessary if you have include files). Install Xenu by going to Start >> Run and entering \\abies\Apps\INSTALL\webtools\xenu.exe. You must be an administrator on your machine to do this. Contact the Helpdesk if you have trouble.

Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver can also check for broken links. You must first set up a Site (Site >> New Site) to provide it with the area to search. Go to Window >> Results >> Link Checker. The Results panel will appear at the bottom of your Dreamweaver work area if not already open. Click on the green arrow to begin the test and then "Check Links for Entire Site". Files with broken links will be displayed along with the broken link. Click on the files to open them for editing.
