FS 599: Study Design Workshop
Expectations for Passing Grade
1. Students are expected to come to class prepared. Except for the first day, students should read the material for that day and spent time thinking critically about the ideas that are presented. Students are expected to actively participate in a discussion about the topics presented in the papers.
An active participant in discussion contributes readily to the conversation but doesn’t dominate it, makes thoughtful contributions that advance the conversation, shows interest in and respect for others’ views, participates actively.
2. Each student is expected to participate as the leader or co-leader of a discussion centered around the study design for a particular study. Leaders should be able to lead a discussion that results in a statement of the research question and the scope of inference, a diagram of the study design, and elucidation of how replication, randomization and control of variation was used in the study. The discussion could also include potential modifications to the study design and the impact of these modifications to the research questions and scope of inference.
