Critique:
Goals and objectives
Rationale and significance outline (10 points)
Procedure
After reading the
attached researchable question, you should critique your classmate's
goals and objectives statement and rationale and
significance outline. Your
critique will
be submitted on the assigned due date, and then
shared with the student you critiqued. You will be graded
on the quality of your critique. Feel free to provide constructive
criticism on the researchable question,
but this is not required for this assignment. Your critique should
address all of the questions listed on the critiquing web
page, plus the following:
For the goals and objectives, you should address the following questions:
- Do the goals provide a clear understanding of the long-term ends toward which the research is directed?
- Are the objectives outcome-based?
- Are the objectives clearly related to the hypotheses stated in the researchable question?
- Are the objectives achievable (i.e., reasonable in scope for the type of degree being sought)?
The rationale and significance outline should be detailed enough for you to follow the logic of the rationale and significance section (including proposed headings and key conclusions), identify important missing elements, and judge the clarity of the writing. This outline should present a solid justification for the proposed work, including key statements that describe:
- The reasons for focusing on the stated goals, objectives, and hypotheses
- The reasons for choosing the proposed materials and methods
- Why the research is important
- Any novel ideas or contributions that the proposed project offers
If you do not complete the assignment by the due date, a late penalty will be assigned using the penalties listed in the late assignment policy.
