The FS 520 Project – The Presentation of a Researchable Question.

Fall 2009

 Content of the Researchable Question Project - this should fit on one page. Some of these bullet points are single sentences!

  1. State your research question.
  2. Describe your scope of inference.
  3. Explain how your research fits into the larger picture of your field. 
  4. Describe whether your research is exploratory or confirmatory and whether it is experimental or observational and why.
  5. Clearly define your assumptions, axioms, objectives, and hypothesis.
  6. Describe the response you’ll collect and the units of measure.
  7. Describe the strategy for using the data to address the question.
  8. Describe what results will lead to confirming and falsifying your hypotheses.
  9. Provide an annotated bibliography with at least 2 sources.

 Timeline for the Project

         Weeks 1-2     With major advisor decide on research question

         Week 3           Identify assumptions, axioms, postulate, hypothesis; begin literature review

         Week 5          Tues. Oct. 27 - Bring draft of project for Peer Review I. Include items 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 above.

         Week 6          Revisions based on comments, draft paragraphs on analysis strategy

         Week 7         Thurs. Nov. 12 - Bring draft for Peer Review II; include items 1-9 above.

         Week 8         Thurs. Nov. 19  Turn in final copy of written project.    

         Week 9          Meet with presenter and review their presentation. Prepare critique.

        Week 10          Give oral presentations in class. Critique classmates
