Would you like to have some fun and do something different? If so, download this ZIP file, feed7c.zip, and play around with different fertilizer mixes. The file is around 36k. You'll need the program PKUNZIP or WINZIP to decompress it. Once unzipped, the file is called feed7c.xls, meaning it is a MS Excel spreadsheet (115k). Therefore, open it up in a current version of Excel and play around! The program was developed by Eric van Steenis, B.C. Ministry of Forests. Eric handed the program out at the Nursery Technology Cooperative's symposium on Forest Seedling Nutrition from the Nursery to the Field. The title of his paper at the symposium was Nutrition and Fertilization: PPM vs. Millimoles. This is a fun spreadsheet if you care about containerized seedling nutrition. Our complements to Eric for such a neat spreadsheet.

One other bit of fun you might have is to look at some real sites having to do with containerized seedlings. Below are some potential sites to get a feel for the industry and maybe learn some things you never knew existed. The nursery business as a whole is very large in Oregon and it now eclipses forestry in billions in revenue. Click on a few of these. Warning: It is a good idea to go to Favorites in Explorer so that you will be able to return to this turtorial. Have fun!
