The purpose of this student conduct agreement is to foster a learning environment and to pursue behavior that is acceptable in the professional workplace. This expected conduct can be described as courteous, civil, honest, and professional.

Classroom conduct is the responsibility of the individual. When needed, other class members can, and are expected to, reinforce the expected conduct by voicing their opinions.

The instructor will work to create a class environment to promote openness, civility, common courtesy, and to achieve course objectives.

Students are expected to:

  1. Attend class, arrive on time and prepared, and remain attentive for the entire period.
  2. Participate in classroom discussions.
  3. Participate in groups with whomever one is assigned.
  4. Be respectful of the dignity and diversity of individuals.
  5. Strive to build constructive relationships among fellow students and with the instructor.
  6. Avoid disruptive and discourteous behavior such as coming to class late, talking at inappropriate times, reading newspapers in class, or monopolizing class time.
  7. Use/operate equipment (including vehicles and tools) in a safe and legal manner during classes, labs, or field activities.
  8. Completely abstain from the consumption of drugs and alcohol during classes, labs, or field activities*. This includes overnight field trips. This policy applies to students, faculty, and staff.

The University's policies on honesty, ethics, and substance abuse (including alcohol) can be found at: http://www.orst.edu/admin/stucon, and students are expected to follow these, as well.

The consequences of violating items "a" through "g" will be determined by the course instructors.

The consequence for violations of the drug and alcohol rule (item "h") is a failing grade in the class.

Each student is expected to read, understand and sign a copy of this agreement.

AGREEMENT:

I, the undersigned, have read and understand the conduct expectations listed above. I agree to abide by these expectations, and I understand the consequences for violations.
