Homework 10

Excel Data Import and Pivot Tables and Word Collaboration and Formatting

*** This 15-point assignment is due by Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 9:00pm.

Start Microsoft Word and open T:\Teach\Classes\FOR112\ForestPark.doc

1. (1 pt) Accept the four edits that Track Changes had previously recorded in the document.

Be sure Track Changes is OFF for the following edits.

2. (1 pt) Insert T:\Teach\Classes\FOR112\Images\forest-park.jpg into the document.

3. (2 pts)

  • Your forest-park image must be formatted with a tight wrapping style.
  • Set the options so that text in the document will wrap only to the right of the picture no matter where you place the picture.
  • Resize the picture in Word to be exactly 1.5 inches in height.

4. (1 pt) Move the image into a place such that there are two paragraphs of text above the image, two paragraphs of text to the right of the image, and the remainder of the text below the image.

Click here to see an example of how the page should look.

5. (1 pt) Format the two paragraphs that follow the forest-park image to appear in 2-column format.

6. (1 pt) Open T:\Teach\Classes\FOR112\UMO.xls and copy the chart that is on the Transfers worksheet. Paste the chart into your document as Picture (PNG), In Line With Text, at the end of your document.

7. (2 pts) For the chart you just inserted, scale the size of the chart to be 33% of its original size. Also, center the image horizontally on the page (leave the image with an "In Line" wrapping style to achieve this).
Again, check the example above to see how it should look. There should only be one page in your document at this point.

8. (1 pt) Turn on Track Changes. Go to the end of the document and add a two sentence paragraph describing what you like about OSU.

9. Save your Word document as:  yourONIDusername-hw10.doc

10. (2 pts) Open T:\Teach\Classes\FOR112\Import_Data\AAA_Data.txt  and import the file into Excel.

11. (3 pts) Create a Pivot Table which has rows grouped by 20 for the Acres column (0-19, 20-39, 40-69, ..., 920-939) and displays the Average of the Area column for each Acre block. Your Pivot Table should appear on its own worksheet renamed: Pivot Table.

12. Use File > Save As... to save your Excel file as an .xls file (remember, this was a .txt file to begin with and you must save it as an .xls file to preserve all the changes you've made. When you name the file, use yourONIDusername-hw10.xls for a naming convention.

13. E-mail your two files (the Word document and the Excel workbook) to the instructor attached to a message with a Subject of: FOR112 HW10.
