Forests and Timber

Here's an opportunity to take a closer
look at what goes on in an actively managed forest. When
you look across a forested landscape in Oregon, you may
see a patchwork of colors. Each patch is called a "stand,"
and many stands make up a forest. Each color the light
green of a rapidly growing young stand, the dark green of
the deep, shadowy canopy of an old-growth forest, and many
shades in between represents a management decision
and reflects a different stage of a forest stand's development.
