The Current Forests of Oregon

Today's forests— the plants and animals in them and the geographic location they dominate— result in part from the relatively recent geologic and climatic changes discussed earlier along the timeline.

None of the changes talked about so far have been casued by humans, because humans are relative newcomers to Oregon. Native Americans have been part of the legacy for at least 6,000 years; European Americans for no more than 250 years. The important role humans have played in the development of the landscape we have today is in part the reason for the ForestLearn web site: some topics to visit as part of the discussion of the biological legacy.
