The Oregon University System is one of nearly 70 endowments in 45 countries established by the Nippon Foundation to create the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF). The SYLFF Program goal is to nurture future leaders who will transcend geopolitical, religious, ethnic, and cultural boundaries in the world community for the peace and well-being of mankind. Seventy five 1-year internships for U.S. citizens or permanent residents, funded by the U.S. Department of State and the German Bundestag, target students interested in German and international affairs. The program includes a 2-month intensive German language course, 4-month study at a German university or professional school, and a 5-month internship with a German company or organization in the participant's target field, during which time the participants live with a German host family.
