Recruitment

Unclassified Positions

When you are beginning to plan for an unclassified recruitment it is best to start by creating a position description. This should include:
  • Position Summary (a paragraph that explains the program, environment and goals of the position)
  • Duties (a breakdown of specific duties separated by approximate percentages of time devoted to each)
  • Supervisory work (include how many employees are supervised by this position and related duties)
  • Required qualifications (specify minimum degree, experience & knowledge requirements)
  • Preferred qualifications (define the qualifications for an ideal candidate)
Click Here for the Position Description Form in MS Word format. (These are required for FRA and Professional Faculty positions, but are useful as a guide for all positions)

You will also need to compile some information about the search:
  • Search Committee (specify the chair, and each member's name, sex and ethnicity)
  • Advertisement (if you are planning on posting an advertisement in print or on the web you will need to develop a short ad and a list of places to advertise)
  • Dates
    • Posting open and closing dates (must be open at least 14 days)
    • Start Date (remember to leave time for review, interviews and approval)
    • End Date (unless the job length is indefinite)
  • Starting Salary Range
  • Index and activity code
Once you have compiled the above information you can proceed to submit the online request form to the department recruitment coordinator. Click the "start request" button below to go to the form.

Temporary Positions

Temporary positions follow a much different, and less formal, procedure than unclassified recruitments. We generally begin by advertising and performing interviews. Once someone is selected we then work with the COF HR coordinator to complete the hiring paperwork.

Start by writing up an announcement for the position and then contact the department recruitment coordinator to discuss advertising and posting the announcement.
