Education

The Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society offers many opportunities for graduate study. Graduate programs are offered leading to the Master of Forestry (M.F.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. In addition to these degree programs, the Department offers a Sustainable Natural Resources Certificate and participates in several multidisiplinary graduate programs and the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) graduate program.

Graduate study in Forest Science is structured for students interested in research and teaching careers or in specialized areas of forest practice. The emphasis is on defining and solving problems related to forest ecosystems and management.

Areas of concentration include forest ecology, genetics, tree physiology, integrated forest protection, silviculture, and agroforestry/sustainable forestry.
