The Forest Resources Department is involved in undergraduate and graduate instruction, research, and
extended education. It represents the subject areas of forest biology, forest soils, forest mensuration
and modeling, forest economics, management sciences, forest policy, decision making and problem solving,
social sciences, communication, resource ecology and conservation, recreation behavior, recreation planning
and management, resource economics, and resource analysis and policy.
The educational programs in Forest Management, Recreation Resource Management, and Master of Forestry
leading to the first professional degrees in forestry of the B.S. and M.F. are accredited by the Society
of American Foresters (SAF). SAF is the specialized accrediting agency recognized by the Council of Higher
Education Accreditation as the accrediting agency for forestry in the United States. All three professional
degree programs bridge social and natural sciences and teach students how to manage natural resources for
all the varied products and values we desire from our forests and other wildlands.
