Perhaps no forest is more easily distinguished than that of ponderosa pine. Whether along the south rim of the Grand Canyon, or on the eastern slopes of the Cascades in Oregon and Washington, ponderosa pine demands to be noticed. The colorful orange-russet tones of ponderosa bark along with the lively scent of pine needles have made these forests favorites for campers, recreationists, and movie-makers throughout the West.
