Robert Aufderheide Award – an annual award, established in 1959, honoring the outstanding instructor or professor on the teaching staff in the College of Forestry. The name of the individual so selected in inscribed on two plaques, one of which is posted in Peavy Hall, the other is a personal wall plaque presented directly to the professor. Nominations and voting by secret ballot of the student body are conducted each winter by Xi Sigma Pi. There are no restrictions regarding the number of times an individual professor may be selected for the honor.
Kelly Axe Award – established in 1939, an annual award honoring a student in the senior class of the College of Forestry who is selected by vote of his or her classmates as having contributed to college activities. The student so honored has his or her name inscribed on a wall plaque provided by the Kelly Axe Company, and is acknowledged at the annual Student Recognition Day ceremonies.
William M. Eskew Memorial Award (“Belle and Bull of the Woods”) – established in 1956, an award dedicated to the memory of William M. Eskew, former Forestry student. Awarded annually to the female and male students scoring highest in the competitive events at Spring Thaw. The students so honored have their names inscribed on a wall plaque displayed in Peavy Hall, and are acknowledged at the annual Student Recognition Day ceremonies.
Paul M. Dunn Senior Award – established in 1965, an annual award to the outstanding senior in the College of Forestry graduating class, based on high scholastic achievement with potential professional ability. Recipient is chosen by the college’s Curriculum and Advising Committee, and the award is announced at the annual Student Recognition Day ceremonies. The award carries a cash prize and a plaque.
Harold Bowerman Leadership Award – established in 1986, an annual award to honor a senior on the basis of demonstrated leadership and outstanding contributions made to student club activities and college programs. Nominations are accepted each spring from throughout the college, and the selection is made by the college’s Curriculum and Advising Committee. The recipient is named at the Student Recognition Day ceremonies. The award carries a cash prize and a plaque.
Pack Essay Award – up to 3 awards made annually for the best
papers submitted as part of a WIC class. Judging is done by a special
faculty committee appointed by the Associate Dean of Instruction. Recipients
are announced at the Student Recognition Day ceremonies. A cash prize
is given out, made possible from funds left over from the Pack Essay
program which ran nationwide throughout the 1960’s. The current
awards program was developed in 1991-92.
