UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM AND ADVISING COMMITTEE

The College Curriculum and Advising Committee is advisory to the Dean regarding the College’s resident educational program.  The committee is composed of the Head Advisor and one faculty representative from each major, and is chaired by the Associate Dean.  Members serve as representatives of the College faculty rather than their own departments.  The Duties of the Committee are as follows:

1.                  The Committee will be concerned with developments throughout the University that have an impact on College programs, including interdisciplinary programs of which the College is, or should be, a part.

2.                  To provide oversight and recommend changes where necessary regarding all advising functions and guidelines within the College to ensure that they are effective.  This includes policies and processes covering grades, transfer course articulations, course substitutions, petitions, admissions requirements, academic progress, and graduation audits, as well as support systems used to assist the advising function.

3.                  To resolve problems related to the scheduling of the College’s academic courses with a view to maximizing course selections and reducing course conflicts for undergraduate students in the College.

4.                  To resolve appeals from undergraduate students in the areas of College program requirements (e.g. course substitutions, articulations, audit or grade problems).

5.                  To select annual recipients for the College’s Paul M. Dunn Senior of the Year and the Harold Bowerman Leadership undergraduate.

METHOD OF OPERATION

Meetings are called at least once per term, more frequently if needed.  Development of agendas, and recording of action items and decisions are the responsibility of the chair.  The Committee will review its charter periodically and update or modify as necessary.
