The accepted measurement is rays per mm. Sometimes, but not all that frequently, total ray volume (i.e. percentage of wood volume) is measured. Hope this helps, Paul van Rijckevorsel -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: owner-iawa@COF.ORST.EDU namens Khokon Verzonden: vr 5-8-2011 13:00 Aan: iawa@COF.ORST.EDU Onderwerp: [IAWA Forum] Numer of rays per mm2 =20 Hello there, Does the term number of rays per mm2 means the number of rays (uniseriate + fusiform as for example) present in 1 mm x 1 mm area or it would be the number of ray cells in 1 mm x 1 mm area? If it is the number of rays (uniseriate + fusiform as for example) per square millimeter, then what the counting would be for those rays present half or more than half outside the measuring area?
