If you haven't had a chance to think about attending, this is a good time to do so because there is still room for several oral and poster presentations. =20 What: Wood Matters--A Celebration of the Work of John Barnett =20 Sponsored by: The Linnean Society of London, International Academy of Wood Science, and International Association of Wood Anatomists =20 Where: London =20 Why: It sounds really really good! Prof. John Barnett FLS, Past President of the IAWS and active member of IAWA retired 2 years ago from the Univ. of Reading following a very productive career as a developmental plant anatomist, overall wood scientist, and successful science administrator and editor. At this joint meeting, a number of his colleagues and friends will review recent developments on his pet subjects in wood science and plant development (such as cell wall ultrastructure, the cambium, reaction wood, and various applied aspects of wood anatomy). John Barnett will present the Academy Lecture of the IAWS. The rest of the program will have a wide range of contributed papers and posters on xylem by members and fellows of the three organizing societies. =20 More info and registration forms: Go to the website of either the Linnean Society or the IAWA or go directly to http://bio.kuleuven.be/sys/iawa/meetings.html =20 A word from Barb: I truly wish I could go! It looks like it'll be an excellent meeting--and entertaining, as well. =20 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Barb Lachenbruch Dept. of Wood Science & Engineering Oregon State University Corvallis, OR 97331 541-737-4213; fax 737-4213; barb.lachenbruch@oregonstate.edu http://woodscience.oregonstate.edu/faculty/lachenbruch/ =20 ------_=_NextPart_001_01C87538.3201C57A Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 6.00.2900.3268" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY> <DIV><SPAN class=3D127493309-22022008><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>A very = nice meeting=20 is shaping up for London on May 29-30, 2008.
