Dear IAWA forum members:

I have colleague who is doing water relations work with a Great Basin =
desert species: Sarcobatus vermiculatus (greasewood) and he is =
interested in doing a growth ring analysis correlating recent past =
annual rainfall with xylem production. I noted that this is a species =
with so-called anomalous secondary growth that produces successive =
cambia. So annual growth rings are not present as in the sense of =
typical woody trees. Does anyone know if people have done something like =
growth ring analyses with a species like this (lacking the normal =
secondary growth from a single cambium)?

Thanks, Paul
