I'm hoping some members of this forum can help this person's rather intriguing question concerning fibre length differences between northern and southern tree species. Responses can be directed to dshugar1@hotmail.com and/or this forum. I'm currently writing my thesis about ground ice in peat (the question is actually about trees, not peat). There's very little data about the fibre density of peat and the data that does exist concerns southern peat. Anyhow, I'm thinking that northern peat may have a different fibre density than southern peat. CR Burn gave as an example trees in northern Canada since the wood is denser than in southern Canada. I've searched and searched but can't seem to find anything about this phenomenon. Do you know of any papers which discuss this or even mention it?Any help would be appreciated.
