Dear Candace

For stuck borers have a look on this article.

Yamaguchi, D.K. 1991 Mechanical devices for extracting stuck increment
borers., Canadian Journal of Forest Research 21: 712-714

Also, consider using 2-thread borer for hard trees. My memories tell me that
Haglof handles 2-thread borers. Usually borers with less threads are easier
to extract from a tree. This might prevent you from being bored from a borer
that is stuck in a tree.
