Dr. Berlyn's note served as a prompt to let you know that a recent addition
to the IAWA web page, are links to some Wood Anatomy related web
sites, in these categories:

1. Wood Collection Catalogs -- Madison (FPL), Smithsonian, Utrecht (and
this site has 6000 photomicrographs of cross and tangential sections.)

2. General Information -- Center for Wood Anatomy (links to general
information on physical/mechanical properties, common names), Kew
Micromorphology Database (if you want to know what has been published
on the wood anatomy of a particular group -- this is a place to go),, Richter
and Dallwitz's "Commercial Timbers" (descriptions and images of some
important commerical timbers -- said to cover about 400 taxa), Index to
Botanical Sites, etc.

3. Nomenclature / Taxonomy -- places to check on names currently in
use.

4. Teaching materials -- Dr. Berlyn's site will be added to this list.
Includes sections on wood anatomy from plant anatomy courses, some
wood science courses.

If you have any suggestions for additions to the list of Wood Anatomy Web
Links, please let me know.

and p.s. -- the NC State library's special collections digitized their copy of
the Hough's wood collection, with intentions of making it available on-line,
they were also intending to scan in the text.
