Hi,

this is very intriguing question. We are measuring 15N natural
abundance in tree rings of different species in Southern Switzerland
(high polluted region with very elevated nitrogen deposition) and we
observe different species-specific behaviour. We are sure that there
is a fractionation during the movement of water (and nitrogen) from
the inner part of the stem to the outermost one. We believe that the
wood-anatomical structure plays a key role in these processes.
However, unfortunately we have not yet found good refs.

I am glad I'm on this forum!

Paolo
