The purpose of the Spaulding Tract is to:

Demonstrate tree growth over an extended time period.
Show proper marking and logging of second growth Douglas fir.
Demonstrate best utilization, grading and marketing of timber.
Show the income that could be derived from intensive management of similar woodland.
Provide teaching, demonstration and research opportunities associated with management of a densely planted young Douglas-fir forest.
