Selective Harvest

Three Approaches to Developing Uneven-aged Forest Structure on the Elizabeth Starker Cameron Demonstration Forest, Sept. 2001

Individual Tree Selection: This prescription involved removing individual trees along a 100-150 foot wide corridor along the Soap Creek Road on the northern half of the property. The intent was to leave midstory trees and create a few small (single tree) openings in order to release established understory and midstory trees, allowing enough light to foster growth of Douglas-fir and western red cedar seedlings. Gaps were far enough apart to provide a rather uniform looking stand. Stocking levels after harvest ranged from 100-120 sq. ft. basal area per square acre.
